The annual forum hosting the best cattle genetics available

Every year in May, the Bordeaux exhibition centre hosts Aquitanima ― a leading venue for cattle genetics showcasing the best of breeds from south-western France. Over the 3-day event, livestock professionals gravitate around six cattle breeds: the Blonde d’Aquitaine, the Bazadaise, the Charolaise, the Limousine, the Holstein and the Gasconne.

Meanwhile, best-of-breed specimens grace the ring for a 3-day schedule of interregional competitions and breed shows.

With financial backing from the Aquitaine regional council and technical logistics provided by the Aquitaine-region chamber of agriculture, the event hosts over four hundred cattle from five regions of France (Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrénées, the Auvergne, the Limousin and Poitou-Charentes) and two regions of Spain (the Spanish Basque Country and Cantabria).

A gateway for produce from the leading agricultural region of France

Every year, between five and eight thousand livestock professionals from France and abroad attend the international-reach event, which provides an excellent forum for technical dialog and business information.

However, Aquitanima is also a not-to-be-missed opportunity for getting to know the wine, gastronomy and all-round charm of the leading agricultural region of France, as it takes place against a backdrop that also features the Bordeaux international trade fair and the Aquitaine-region agricultural show which every year pull in around 300,000 visitors!

 Aquitanima Tours

One of the reasons Aquitanima continues to draw more and more international visitors is the "Aquitanima Tours" initiative: circuit tours visiting livestock farms with the different cattle breeds on show, where visitors can get to grips with the technical facilities used and see the animals real-life, on-farm and throughout the production channel.

Foreign delegations get to benefit from a check-in, transport and accommodation offer over the three day run-up to the show.

The event offers visitors an outstanding experience, and every year, the show enrols over a hundred foreign visitors from around the globe: from Finland, Belgium, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Canada, Austria, Norway, Greece, the UK, and Australia, to the Czech Republic, Croatia, Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Poland, and on to Uruguay, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Morocco, China…
