Accurate and diverse genetic indexes

The index scores an animal’s estimated breeding value for a given trait, calculated taking into account the performances specific to the animal, to its lineage (parents, offspring and collaterals), environmental effects,... Diversity and accuracy of genetic indexes allow farmers to make the best-informed choice based on the combination of traits that best fits their performance targets and priorities.

French genetic evaluation of dairy cattle breeds offer 30 main indexes on specific criteria and varied: production index (milk yield, fat and protein contents,...), functional index (longevity, fertility, ...) index morphology (udder, feet and legs, ...) and index of synthesis.

French genetic evaluation of beef breeds offer 17 main indexes on specific criteria and varied: elementary (calving ease, preweaning growth,…) and composite IBOVAL indexes for natural servicing bulls. They are complemented by beefing (muscle development, growth potential, ...) and maternal (fertility, morphology, ...) abilities indexes for the animal insemination bulls.

French genetic evaluations on sheep breed stud animals offer a core set of 18 indexes on a wide range of sharply-defined criteria: 7 core–composite indexes put together based on results of individual on-farm and on-station performance testing; 10 core–composite indexes put together based on results of progeny testing. For dairy sheep breeds, a further 9 production, morphology and composite net merit indexes are calculated.
